COMPOSTING THE EASY WAY

How to make Compost

To convert organic matter to rich, dark humus, the microorganisms

in your compost pile or bin need energy. To speed decomposition use Green Plant Matter with kitchen scraps, fresh weeds and other green materials,and cut up straw or leaves,and dirt to cover. Turn the pile over once a day to mix, and keep the pile wet(not driping wet) You should have finished compost in 2-4 weeks. Use Dry Plant Matter: with autumn leaves, straw and other dead fibrous matter cover with dirt turn once a week for finished compost in 8-12 weeks. Tip: The smaller the fibrous mater(straw or leaves) the faster it will decompose. Also keep the pile wet. If you use the open pit try and make the pile no more than 5 ft high and 4ft wide. I make compost all year long in small pails,and it works great.

Super Compost

One way in building the pile is to make a layer of leaves, straw, grass clippings, 1 foot deep, wet down and pack. Spread a layer of manure 4 to 6 inches deep over this layer of wet material. Then spread up to 5 pounds of ground phosphate,1 quart of raw bone meal per 100 square feet, and 1 pound of ground limestone.
Also,I use a layer of topsoil.

Then continue to repeat the process until the pile has reached 3 to 5 feet high.

Your Compost will begin to heat in about 2 or 3 days. Keep it moist, but not too wet, and do not disturb for awhile.

After 2 to 3 weeks, fork it over, mixing the parts to obtain uniformity. Then turn and mix the pile about twice a week. Your compost should be ready in 4 to 6 weeks

Most any organic Materials Can Be Used in the Compost Pile.
You can use the following---straw, leaves, pine straw, grass clippings, shrub clippings, garbage, fish scraps, water hyacinths, etc. We have a list of materials that can be used in the compost pile. Email us for the complete list of organic materials to use in your compost pile.

How to get rid of those Groundhog that have been eating all your vegetable

Try this solution first to get rid of gofers and groudhogs/

Don't through away that juicy fruit gun that you didn't eat. Give it to the gopher that been hanging around your yard eating your vegetables and flowers.

GENERAL GARDENING QUESTIONS

We have had some luck growing our Blueberries. Most every year we have a good crop of blueberries, Here are some Tips.

Plant your blueberry bushes in a sunny location where they will be protected from cold winds and intense afternoon sun. Conserve moisture, blueberries need plenty of water,and keep the delicate roots cool. Prune your blueberries bushes each year until they are well establish. Water regularly - about 1-2" per week. You should be getting a good crop in 3 to 4 years.

Here is a TIP in getting rid of birds in your garden,and it doesn't harm the birds.

Are birds are giving you a problem eating your seeds,garden vegetables,or berries. Don't toss out your old CD'S, hang them up on your bushes,or garden poles so that the wind blows them all around. It works so good for me I don't need nets on my blueberies bushes any more. This tip doesn't cost you any money,and you don't have anything to loose.

Tips on good mowing The organic way

Don't put it off until Saturday! Mow your lawn when it's needed -- when the blades are one-third taller than the recommended height. Regular mowing reduces stress, preventing disease and pests. Conversely, taking too much off at once starves the roots and may expose new lower leaves to sunburn. Remember -- fewer, shorter clippings eliminates the need to rake or catch!

2>Mow in a circular pattern spiraling inward. You'll never have to turn the mower around and you can blow the clippings inward for better mulching. Go back and tidy up the corners afterwards.

Keep your blades sharp - they won't tear grass so there is less chance of disease. Plus you'll get done faster and give your lawn a nice look.

Leave short grass clippings where they fall. You will add free nutrients to your soil and stimulate beneficial bioactivity. Rake up wet, thick clippings and add them to your compost pile.

ORGANIC GARDENING TIPS

Stem Rust
Symptoms: Red pustules on leaves. Usually occurs in late summer, following hot, dry periods. Severe rusting indicates inadequate fertilization of infrequent mowing intervals. Solutions: Use rust-resistant cultivars such as Turf Alive! or Turf Alive! III. Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer like Lawns Alive! or WOW! Plus. Avoid evening watering.
Asochyta Leaf Blight
Symptoms: Large areas may appear uniformly blighted, or smaller heavily infected patches may appear blighted. The fungus survives in debris and is spread during wet periods; generally infects the blade through freshly mowed blade ends. Can occur at any time of year. Solutions: Water as little as possible. Use Lawns Alive! or WOW! Plus to maintain active, healthy grass growth.

ORGANIC GARDENING TIPS

Pets can become infested with fleas by being in contact with rabbits, groundhogs, dogs, cats and other animals. However, pets do not need to come into direct contact with another animal. They may be infested simply by being in areas where an infested animal has been recently. This is why treating your lawn with nematodes is effective. Fleas may live on your pet, but they lay hundreds of eggs in your carpets and bedding. If infested, it will be necessary to treat all animals in the home as well as using an insecticide on the house itself. This process can take weeks or months.

Some animals are allergic to fleas and suffer from a condition called flea allergic dermatitis which causes intense pruritis (itching), hair loss and often secondary skin infection. Fleas often carry the intermediate life stage of certain tapeworms. If ingested during grooming, your pet could develop a worm infestation. The above tips are from Gardens Alive.

Bug Killer(all Organic)

Are you getting buged with bugs? If so try this recipe. Its all organic and made from household products. 4 cloves of garlic.

1 small onion
1 small jalapeno pepper
1 tablespoon of dish soap liquid
1qt of warm water
mix all the ingredients togather and let mixture sit overnight.
strain out the solids,and pour into a hand -held mist sprayer.
Then knock them dead. It works for us. Yes it will keep those Japannese bettles and squash bugs away.
